Simon Younes
President and Chief Editor

Simon Younes is a second year MAIR student. Simon’s interest range broadly from global diplomacy, immigration, international political economy, global governance, and political theory. As president and chief editor of Borders, Simon manages all internal and external affairs, reviews submissions, and next issue of the Borders Journal.

Ethan Paul
Vice President

Ethan Paul is the Vice President of BORDERS and a second-year MAIR student. His research interests focus on how leaders influence international relations, as well as examining conflict, terrorism, and historical approaches to IR. He enjoys utilizing and analyzing archival documents to gain a deeper understanding of IR.

Ruka Ayele
Financial Director

Ruka Ayele is the Financial Director of BORDERS, where she oversees budgeting, funding strategy, and long-term financial planning. She holds a BS in Information Science and a BA in African American & Africana Studies from the University of Maryland and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in International Relations. Her work sits at the intersection of culture, governance, and sustainable systems, with a focus on ethically supporting creative and intellectual labor.

Suhyun (Sue) Goh
Administrator

Suhyun Goh, or Sue, is a 4th year psychology undergraduate in the 4+1 MAIR program. Although psychology and international relations may appear quite different, I’m interested in using insights about the human psyche to better understand global interactions. While I’m still exploring my academic focus, I’m currently drawn to conflict dynamics, diplomacy, and global decision-making.

Liam Anders

Hi, I am Liam Anders, a second year graduate student in the MAIR program. My research interests are primarily in conflict resolution in interstate conflict, with a focus on how foreign interventions affect both. As well as I am interested in foreign aid diplomacy and economic sanctions, in the context of an increasingly multipolar international political economy.

Zohneseh Fopenawoh

Zohneseh Fopenawoh is a final-year student in the Master of Arts in International Relations Plus One program at the University of Maryland, College Park. She completed a dual bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. She is a DACOR Bacon House Foundation Graduate Fellowship recipient, and her research interests focus on migration, labor and human trafficking, and the intersection of globalization and human rights.

Lanier Fussell

Lanier is a first year student in the MAIR program and is interested in studying the effects of international responses to humanitarian crises, concentrating on access to food and water. Since earning her BA in International Studies from Louisiana State University in 2022, Lanier has worked as an AmeriCorps member in Oregon and as an English language assistant in France.
